Проблема, которая решается применением практики | Extremely low water availability (supply) of pastures; the quantity of cattle in watering sites below standard; land erosion |
Land degradation, water loss in the fields; reduction of irrigation and soil flushing efficiency; inefficient distribution of water resources; rising ground water level |
Примененные в практике инструменты | Technology of springs arrangement for stock watering |
Technology of laser planning (leveling) of irrigated land |
Описание практики и ее результаты | Actions: At first, the exact location of water outcrop was identified and cleaned from mud. 15 meters below the outcrop, 3 interconnected water tubs were installed (each 1.8 m long, 0.5 m wide and 0.5 deep). Each subsequent tub is located lower than the preceding one, thus, allowing water flowing down in the cascade manner. Results: Financial and economic: Cattle gaining weight quicker. Technical: Improved water supply in the area, including for cattle watering. |
Initially, the laser technology was applied to develop virgin acreage for principal land planning. Later, it was used for routine land planning (smoothing). In recent years, the application of laser planning technology almost stopped due to lack of resources, but this case study shows how relevant it is in the current context. Actions:
Results: Technical:
Financial and economic:
Environmental: • improved land reclamation condition (ground water mineralization decreased, thus, leading to contraction of salinized acreage). |
Какие уроки и рекомендации можно извлечь из практики | Lessons learnt: Collection of water in one place had been practiced since ancient times, but was forgotten over time. Rehabilitation of traditional practices should be welcomed. Recommendations: Similar practices should be scaled-up and continued as they not only benefit the local population, but also allow enhancing water availability for wild animals and expanding hayfield meadows. |
Lessons learnt: The practice demonstrates the need for periodic (routine) laser planning (leveling) of irrigated land to enhance irrigation efficiency. Recommendations: For routine land smoothing, it is desirable to combine land laser planning with deep land loosening. |

Краткая информация о проекте | Project title: Application of GIS-technologies for reclamation. Project duration: Jan 2010-Dec 2012 (3 years). Project goal and objectives: comprehensive support of Reclamation Expedition (RE) specialists; introduction of new technologies; enhancing RE technical capacities to ensure a more expedient implementation of projects to improve the reclamation condition of irrigated land with the aim of receiving better agricultural yields with the simultaneous maintenance of environmental equilibrium in the area. Project beneficiaries: Fergana Region and Syr Daria Region Reclamation Expeditions. Project implementer: Management Department of the Foundation for Reclamation Improvement of Irrigated Land. |
