EURASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK FINANCES PROJECT ON DEVELOPMENT OF KAZAKH EXPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

Eurasian Development Bank starts financing of a project on the development of export of grain. In accordance with the credit agreement signed, by Deputy CEO of the Bank Kambar Shalgimbayev and Director General of “Holding “Kazeksportastyk” JSC Igor Yermolenko, the bank allocates USD 18.9 mln for the project for the term of 5 years, Kazinform refers to the press service of the bank.

The main purpose of the project is to increase the export of grain to Turkey, Italy, Iran and other countries that are main consumers of Kazakh durum wheat through the development of flour manufacture, storage capacities, and export infrastructure in North Kazakhstan region of our country.

The project corresponds to the strategy of the Eurasian Development Bank. It influences sustainable economic growth and diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy through the development of agriculture and infrastructure for grain export.

FINANCIAL INFUSIONS INTO AGRARIAN SECTOR

In 2009, the Year of Rural Development in Uzbekistan, the implementation of 15 projects directed toward the development of agricultural and water resources, recycling agricultural products will be continued through the attraction of foreign credit under the guarantee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and finances provided by the Fund of Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.

This year, $89.29 mln is expected to be applied under 14 projects being implemented at the expense of foreign credits under governmental guarantees. The major part of this sum, $89.04 mln, will be channeled into modernization and reconstruction, while the rest, $0.25 mln, into the construction of new objects.

In 2009, the implementation of nine projects will be completed. These would include delivery of equipment from China for Hydro-Power Station-2 of Andijan water dam ($0.15 mln) and Hydro-Power Station of Ahangaran water dam ($0.10 mln), rehabilitation of Amu-Zant system of machine channel ($24.45 mln), support of infrastructure development in Syrdarya region ($8.30 mln), soil melioration and increase of water availability for irrigated land in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara and Surkhandarya regions ($8.30 mln) and a project to boost grain crop productivity ($6.62 mln).

Besides, another 3 projects will be continued: improvement of soil in Bukhara, Navoi, and Kashkadarya regions ($3.16 mln), repair work on Kuyu-Mazar pumping station in Bukhara region ($4.96 mln) and a drainage project in southern Karakalpakstan ($8.90 mln).

Also, plans are afoot to start the implementation of 3 projects: repair work on Alat pumping station in Bukhara region ($5.59 mln), purchase of pumping equipment for the reconstruction of Karakul station in Bukhara region ($2.68 mln) and the already mentioned project for soil improvement and increase of water availability in irrigated land in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara and Surkhandarya regions.

The said projects will be realized at the expense of investments from the Asian Development Bank, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, OPEC Fund, soft credits from the SCO and the government of China.

Another project will be launched for resources made available by the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan. It would deal with the overhaul of a series of pumping stations in Karshi ($9.2 mln).

It is noteworthy that presently under implementation is a State Program for Irrigated Land Melioration under which 41 projects on melioration objects construction and reconstruction and 429 projects on repair and restoration are working.
