AGRICULTURE MINISTRY RECOMMENDS FARMERS TO EXPAND SOWING OF POTATOES, TOBACCO, SUGAR-BEET

The ministry of agriculture, water resources and processing industry recommends farmers to expand sowing of potatoes, tobacco and sugar-beet. Head of the ministry’s agriculture development department Askarbek Sagynbaev told journalists at the “Kabar” News Agency.

According to A.Sagynbaev, this year in the republic, it is expected to expand sowing area of potatoes by 5-6 thousand hectare (total area will make 86 thousand hectares). The high demand and costs of potatoes assists in expansion of sowing area. These products exports to Kazakhstan, providing 80% needs of Almaty town.

The ministry recommends expand sowing area of tobacco as “Stansun” and “Diamond” firms show great interests in tobacco. They have already raised the price of tobacco by 3-4 soms, presently it costs 36.6 soms per one kg.

Besides, the ministry recommends farmers to expand sowing area of sugar-beet.

KYRGYZ-RUSSIAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT ON STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP IN ELECTRICAL ENERGY IS PREPARED

The Kyrgyz-Russian intergovernmental agreement on strategic partnership in the sphere of electrical energy is prepared.

The Kyrgyz Ambassador to Russia Apas Jumagulov thinks that the new Government of Kyrgyzstan will speed up its signing as the top-priority document and the agreement will start working.

“We start implementing the largest project jointly with the Russian Federation – construction of new hydro power stations on Naryn river. The Russian side started working out of technical and economic substantiation of construction of five hydro power stations of Naryn cascade”, the Ambassador said in his interview to the Russian newspaper.

Besides, the Russian side together with the largest Russian industrial concern is ready to develop Kavak coal field in Naryn oblast.

“In near future we will learn that owner of the Kara-Balta mining plant will be the Russian enterprise, Thus, perspective cooperation of the two countries in uranium industry is determined. Moreover, a number of largest Russian firms suggested their services to develop gold fields in Chatkal region”, the Kyrgyz diplomat told.

A. Jumagulov told that several Moscow companies are interested in purchase of Tashkomur plant of semiconducting materials. They are ready to arrive in Kyrgyzstan and participate in the tender on purchase of this enterprise.

NEW MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE TOLD ABOUT TASKS FOR THE CURRENT YEAR

A new minister of agriculture, water resources and processing industry told about tasks for the current year. Talantbek Uzakbaev, the new minister, told at a press conference at the “Kabar” News Agency, the ministry should change its work style in conditions of market economy. The ministry’s policy should be aimed to create competitive market for agriculture, introducing and developing private market and rent terms in using land.

It is necessary to work on marketing, i.e. problems of selling and exporting. For this purpose, it is necessary to study world market in order to have forecast to orientate farmers in production of agricultural products.

The work on attracting direct investments is also priority tasks of the ministry. One more task of the ministry is development of fishery. Kyrgyzstan has good prerequisites for this purpose and even investors, who are ready to invest in fishery.

The work on further renewal of agricultural technique park, which started last year, will be continued in 2007.

Besides, the ministry’s next tasks, which are necessary to pay attention in this year, are problems of irrigation and providing with mineral fertilizers, the work on restoring seed-growing system, granting credits to rural commodity producers etc.
