Tashkent started works on construction of its external power-supply network as part of a joint project by Uzbekenergo and China’s Eximbank.
The project is aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply to enterprises, facilities and residents of Tashkent, as well as timely implementation of investment projects via funds provided by the Chinese government.
The project provides for construction of a 220 kV transmitting station “Keles” with high-voltage line of 220 kV, “Navoi” transmission substation of 110 kV and “Sayilgoh” transmission station of 110 kV with cable line of 110 kV. Following the tender, Uzbekenergo has signed a $27.75 mln contract with China’s Xian Electric Engineer Co. Ltd for electrical equipment and supplies.
The project was financed with the marginal cost of about $59 mln through Uzbekenergo’s own funds – more than $32 mln – and China’s Eximbank loans of over $26 mln. The credit package will be granted for 20 years, including a 5-year grace period at a 2% annual interest rate.
During the period of project implementation, the equipment and materials imported into the country, as well as goods and services purchased by Uzbekenergo for the project, are exempt from customs duties, value added tax and mandatory payments to the state funds-in-trust and off-budget School Education Funds.
