Mechanical equipment for construction of vertical drainage

Vertical drainage system is a complex of structures for lowering groundwater level, consisting of water intake wells with hydromechanical equipment (pump etc.) and ground-based complex (power facilities, water conveyance network, automation, telemechanics, and communication devices, control instrumentation, etc.).

When constructing vertical drainage system the following requirements are to be met: Construction Standards and Regulations SNiP 3.02.01-87; Section 5 of Construction Standards and Regulations SNiP 3.05.04-85. For making vertical drainage wells, the counterflush drilling (drilling with counterflow) method should be applied. Counterflush drilling of wells for vertical drainage should be carried out on a round-the-clock basis. Under forced and routine interruptions, it is necessary to maintain water level in the well at the earth surface elevation. Package of filter material needs to be performed by mechanical means (conveyors, loaders, etc.) at a rate of at least 20 kg/s.

Technological order of the construction works:

The material is delivered to the construction site in rolls 300 running meters long and 0.1 m wide. The vertical drainage system is installed by means of special equipment based on an excavator weighing 20-25 ton. Equipment for installation of drains represents a hollow pipe through which a drainage belt passes. The belt end is fastened in an anchoring platen with two holes. The anchor plate is mounted at the place of a future drain and pressed into ground by means of a pipe. Its penetration (embedding) is done down to the design elevation or down to basement rocks. The maximal depth of vertical drainage is limited by the work performance procedure and comes to 20 m. The space between the drains is set so that to achieve the design consolidation degree, generally 1.0-2.5 m. In the layout, drainage is arranged by squares or in staggered fashion. The drainage belt should project above the earth surface at least for 0.2 m. If the rolls need to be connected to each another, this is done by a staple gun.
